There Goes the Motherhood
By Elizabeth Sage, CG
Hi! I’m Elizabeth Sage. I am a Certified Ganjier, Writer, Community Integrator, Wife, and Geriatric Toddler Mom. I’m a disruptor of the status quo and passionate about forging connections that drive impactful change.
Cannabis has been a lifelong tool for me, and now that I am in my mid-40s, it has become my life’s work to help others gain access to the plant, destigmatize its use, and empower a whole new generation of mothers to take control of their health and their families’ well-being!
Motherhood is one of the most extraordinary experiences in life. Creating life and raising autonomous beings is nothing short of miraculous. The wild journey doesn’t stop there, as birth is only the beginning. Motherhood is like an amusement park ride: you can watch others flailing about on the rollercoaster and listen to the tales of its twists and turns from others, but nothing can truly prepare you for the real thing.
It feels like it lasts forever on particularly bumpy ride days. And yes, there are some days you wish you could get off - but it’s over in a blink (and so many of us choose to get back in line for another thrill ride).
The way we mother has changed drastically over the years. Our choices are different, and so are the opportunities.
Motherhood is the great equalizer. Regardless of the dollars in our bank accounts or the land we live on, we are all tasked with RAISING HUMANITY. It is the most important job, yet it often lacks the reverence or recognition it deserves.
Being a mother is HARD. While there are many highs, the lows can be profound and unequal to other challenges we may encounter because of the endless expectations around what a “good mother” is and what she should (and should not) do.
We are products of our formative years and the belief systems instilled in us by our parents, who were also just doing their best.
Many of us are currently experiencing a shift in consciousness. We are waking up to all the ways our current environment and core beliefs no longer serve us.
Plant medicine has played a significant role in all cultures since the beginning, yet for the last 100 years, we have regressed, becoming far detached from the natural medicine our bodies through the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) were designed to use. Cannabis, a female plant, offers us the phytonutrients we need to support our life journeys and can reconnect us with the powerful medicine that has been with us all along.
There are countless ways cannabis can support us, most of which are non-intoxicating. We get so hung up on that one little molecule (THC) that we lose sight of all the other life-giving properties it can offer. With this recurring column in Bloom, I hope to encourage women to explore with me as we delve deeper into motherhood, consciousness, and all things cannabis.
